Sadistic Germans

Riding through Black Forest was epic. The climbs were up to 19 per cent steep, and the descents on smooth, swooping empty roads were up to 13 km long. Brilliant. But then I got deeper into germany where a lot of the roads are too narrow to safely ride on so you have to use a maze of cycle paths.
I found the Danube Cycle Way okay, and met a french medical student going at about the same pace so we rode together for a couple of days. He is obsessed with churches, minsters and cathedrals which is okay for a couple of days but I didn't want to see every religous building between here and  Budapest (his destination) so today I rode solo again.
Onto Austria tomorrow, then Slovakia and Hungary. Hopefully I will get a good night's sleep, although a horde of Belgian hippies have just turned up on the campsite.

    1. Hello Molly, the hippies were very well behaved. Today was great, a fabulous day riding beside the Danube. Hope you find "Tipping Point" interesting; have a great summer. Mr F

    1. Hi James, I am sure I will get into some scrapes that make for good reading. But probably not in Austria - where I am now - it is VERY civilised. Hope your sport is going well. Dom

  4. Oh so it DOES work! Hi Dom... Great to see your progress, and that all's going well. So much for us worrying that you'd not be eating - Pascale's hospitality is obviously keeping you rolling on! I think your fellow cyclist may take a long time to get to his destination if he takes in every religious building on the way. Will you stop in Budapest? Hope you're keeping safe and happy, and not kept awake by the Belgian hippies (unless worthwhile)... Elizabeth X

  5. That's the spirit!! (And a good job too since you're cycling for a year!). Stop at Budapest if you can and go to one of their thermal baths. Not v manly but good for aching muscles!

  7. Hello Zak,that is the only sort of traffic jam there has been. The cycle trails are traffic free. I am in a town which is half in Slovakia and half in Hungary, its called Komkarno. Tomorrow I will reach Budapest. Thank you fior checking my blog. Mr F.

  8. Hi Dom. Pleased it's going well. I remember cycling near a big dam after Vienna on the way to Bratislava on that path. A great cycle path. we were chatting about you and wondering how you were getting on at the pub last night. Hope it continues to go really well.

  9. Hello Mark, good to hear from you. Yes, there are several big dams on that part of the Danube. Partly they probably protect against floods, although that is not an issue this summer with the heatwave central europe is experiencing. The cyclevway from Germnay through Austria is amazing. After Bratislava it goes downhill. Hope you are enjoying a relaxing summer.
